Dr. April Hartman, chief of the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Georgia, is the new Dorothy A. Hahn, MD, Endowed Chair in Pediatrics.

The chair honors the late Dr. Hahn, a pediatric hematologist/oncologist who was just the third faculty member to join the MCG Department of Pediatrics. It was created to support a pediatrics faculty member who works at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia.

Hartman also serves as the Department of Pediatrics’ vice chair for diversity and as medical director of ambulatory pediatric services at CHOG.

She chairs the Medicaid Task Force and serves on the Medical Home Task Force and Behavioral Health Advisory Committee for the Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She was the chapter’s District X representative from 2013 to 2018.

Hartman co-chairs the MCG Faculty Senate’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee, and at the medical school’s teaching hospital, Augusta University Health, she chairs the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Pipeline Subcommittee and the Primary Care Collaborative.

Hartman came to MCG in 2018 from Columbus Regional Medical Group, where she was chief medical officer. While there, she implemented a comprehensive quality management program and achieved National Committee for Quality Assurance Level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home recognition for all established primary care practices.

She is a graduate of Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, and completed her pediatric residency at MCG in 2001.
