Tuesday, October 19th, 2021
Stories this week include a chance for students to interact with professionals in a variety of fields, a new book on dental implants and a celebration of Alumni Weekend at Augusta University.
Plenty of activities surround Alumni Weekend
Augusta University is hosting Alumni Weekend from Oct. 22-23 with many events associated with all the colleges. Brew-n-Que takes place from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22 at the Douglas Barnard Amphitheater. The Medical College of Georgia will host its White Coat Ceremony from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Bell Auditorium. The President’s Cookout is from noon-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23 at the Health Sciences quad.
A chance to network for the future
Pamplin Future Fest is Thursday, Oct. 21 at the Jaguar Student Activities Center. “We are featuring alumni who graduated from Pamplin College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, but all students are invited to hear more about how a liberal arts degree can open your world to so many possibilities,” said Dr. Christine Crookall, associate dean in Pamplin College. There will be six total sessions, each featuring different alumni from a variety of professional fields.
Improving the quality of care when it comes to dental implants
The Dental College of Georgia professor Todd Schoenbaum has published a new textbook Implant Prostodontics: Protocols and Techniques for Fixed Implant Restoration. “I created the book to enhance the overall skill and expertise of our profession in the treatment of implant patients,” Schoenbaum said. “The motivation for it for me is ensuring our patients get better quality care.” Implant dentistry is still relatively new to the profession and he hopes clinicians will benefit from the additional training and knowledge in the book.
Jaguar Nation Collaboration Project reaches out to local business
Augusta University and local businesses have teamed up to create unique products with the school brand. “Partnering with small, local businesses was always the goal. We wanted to strengthen our relationships with downtown business owners and grow our presence in Augusta,” said Augusta University graphic artist Alison Rohdy. Augusta Candle Company, Freshwater Design Co. and Buona Caffe have already created unique Augusta University products that can be found downtown at Augusta & Co.
