Augusta Sees All-Time Low Unemployment Rate

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Augusta recorded an all-time low unemployment rate of 2.6 percent, down two-tenths of a percent over the month.  A year ago, the rate was 4.7 percent.

"We are continuing to see all-time low unemployment rates across the state along with job growth in all of our statistical areas,” said Commissioner Mark Butler. “The focus now is getting more Georgians into the workforce to fill these critical positions, particularly as we gear up for a strong holiday employment season.”

The labor force increased in Augusta by 335 and ended the month with 266,471. That number is down 4,808 when compared to October of 2020.

Augusta finished the month with 259,418 employed residents.  That number increased by 714 over the month but is up by 942 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Augusta ended October with 238,600 jobs. That number increased by 2,000 from September to October and increased by 1,700 when compared to this time last year.

The number of unemployment claims went down by 19 percent in Augusta in October. When compared to last October, claims were down by about 87 percent.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 6,536 active job postings in Augusta for October.
