Columbia County Manager Scott Johnson received the Pillars of Excellence award from Georgia City County Managers Association (GCCMA) during their annual conference on Tuesday, October 26, 2021.

The Georgia City-County Management Association's Pillars of Excellence Award recognizes those who: champion local government management; demonstrate a commitment to personal development; mentors, coaches and counsels peers; sustains innovation; and exemplifies the tenets of the ICMA Code of Ethics. This is a very special award, and bestowed upon an extraordinary few who demonstrate the ability to give so much to their families, their employees, their elected officials and their communities. In a unanimous decision, the GCCMA Nominating Committee selected Scott Johnson based on a distinguished career and a shining commitment to the profession.

Marcia Hampton, City Manager for Douglasville GA and President of GCCMA stated, “Scott Johnson is beloved member of our GCCMA family. There is no question as to why he is so deserving of this award. From a personal perspective, without his leadership I would not be serving as President of this great association. Scott’s heart and passion for people and this professional is second to none. I am proud and honored to serve with him and consider it a privilege to be a part of acknowledging his dedication to the profession. I think I speak for the entire association when I say, we are so much better with him as a colleague.”

“I can’t think of any more deserving of such an award. Scott works hard every day to ensure that we are good stewards of tax payer dollars, and that the county runs effectively and efficiently to provide the services our citizens deserve,” said Chairman Doug Duncan.
