Augusta Sees All-Time Low Unemployment Rate

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Augusta recorded an all-time low unemployment rate of 2.5 percent, down two-tenths of a percent over the month.  A year ago, the rate was 4.9 percent.

“We are seeing the highest number of employed Georgians in our state’s history,” said Commissioner Mark Butler. “Looking towards the new year, our focus is on attracting more people to join the workforce in 2022.”

The labor force decreased in Augusta by 1,445 and ended the month with 265,384. That number is down 2,552 when compared to November of 2020.

Augusta finished the month with 258,726 employed residents.  That number decreased by 977 over the month but is up by 3,908 when compared to the same time a year ago.

 Augusta ended November with 239,000 jobs. That number increased by 200 from October to November and increased by 1,500 when compared to this time last year.

  The number of unemployment claims went down by 17 percent in Augusta in November. When compared to last November, claims were down by about 78 percent.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed about 6,389 active job postings in Augusta for November.
