The Post and Courier - North Augusta launches March 2nd
Friday, February 25th, 2022
The Star of North Augusta, a weekly newspaper that has faithfully served the market since 1954, is expanding along with the area it serves.
Beginning with the Wednesday, March 2, 2022 issue, local community news in The Star will publish in tandem with an expansion of South Carolina's largest news organization and will be called The Post and Courier - North Augusta.
“At a time when so many community newspapers are reducing page counts or eliminating days, it's exciting to announce that The Star of North Augusta is expanding. Offering residents of North Augusta and surrounding areas access to statewide news from the Pulitzer Prize-winning Post and Courier is a reflection of the growth in the market,” Publisher Rhonda Overbey said.
“The Star is a hometown newspaper and its contents are vital to the community. That won't change. As new residents and businesses move to the area, we're recognizing that the needs of the community are changing too. Subscribers will begin seeing more in-depth reporting and investigative journalism that a growing North Augusta deserves.”
The Post and Courier - North Augusta will offer more in-depth and investigative reporting on local issues. Recently hired senior reporter Elizabeth Hustad and current North Augusta reporter Samantha Winn will lead the coverage, with support from the network of Post and Courier reporters from across the state.
“We believe in this product so much that we are dedicating two full-time reporters to cover North Augusta,” Executive Editor John Boyette said.
Prior to joining the Post and Courier, Hustad covered the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area covering government, education and community news for the Laker Pioneer and the Minneapolis’ Star-Tribune.
Winn, a University of South Carolina graduate, has been reporting on North Augusta since she was hired in June of 2021.
The weekly print edition will be distributed on Wednesdays starting March 2.
The Post and Courier - North Augusta will consist of business and development news, investigative reporting and relevant state news. The Star will continue to focus on community news, entertainment, sports and lifestyle features.
The new Post and Courier - North Augusta will not only reach subscribers within North Augusta but also surrounding communities such as Graniteville and Sweetwater. Circulation will grow from a readership of 6,000 to 23,000 and will include expanded digital offerings to subscribers. In addition to North Augusta news, subscribers will have full access to award-winning statewide news at postandcourier.com.
