PowerUp Initiative Delivers Technology Device for all Students

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2022

The Richmond County School System has successfully completed the delivery of approximately 30,000 technological devices to provide every student with a device. The PowerUp Initiative launched during the 2017-18 school year to ensure that every student in the school system received technology to support homework and supplement classroom instruction. The Initiative is funded by a combination of education sales tax dollars, Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) Act and American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds.

“In 2017, we began our pilot program by providing a device to every student in one school. The initiative expanded to six schools by the 2019-2020 school year. After the coronavirus pandemic caused us to shift to Learn@Home, we knew that we had to accelerate our roll out of technology resources to all our students. Today, we are happy to announce that the latest technology is available to all of our students,” says Dr. Malinda Cobb, Associate Superintendent of Academic Services.

Since August 2021, teachers have utilized software and online resources to improve literacy and content mastery for their students in all subject areas.
