A fourth-grader at the School for Arts-Infused Learning (SAIL) is one of four grand prize  winners in the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park 2022 President’s Day Visual and Language Arts  Competition. 

Windsor Smith, 10, of Thomson, GA, won first place in the fourth grade essay division and was named  one of four Grand Prize winners from all grades in the competition. Her essay, “Climbing the Mountain  of Change”, was inspired by the competition’s theme: “Change often begins with helping just one  person. With so much need in the world, where would you start?” 

“I want people to know everyone can make a change in the world,” Windsor said. “They just have to  take the first step.” 

As a grand prize winner, Windsor will be part of a the historical park’s President’s Day virtual program on  Feb. 21. An avid history buff, Windsor is an official Junior Ranger at the Jimmy Carter National Historical  Park in Plains, GA, as well as several other national parks. She’s an “expert” in presidential history,  including being able to name each president. She also recently placed in the top 5 in the Georgia Beta  Club social studies competition, and will be competing at national level in June. 

The Jimmy Carter National Historical Park 2022 President’s Day Visual and Language Arts recognized  students in visual arts, essay and poetry categories. The annual competition was judged by a panel of  current or retired educators, who commended the entrants on their “clear understanding of President  Carter’s servant leadership and rich humanitarian legacy.”
