Jim "Bigboy" Dent to be Inducted into the Caddie Hall of Fame

The Lucy Craft Laney Museum is pleased to announce that James “Bigboy” Dent will be inducted in the National Caddie Hall of Fame on Friday, May 20th from 6:00 – 9:00pm at the Laney Museum’s Private Golf Reception in the museum’s conference center located at 1116 Phillips Street.

A former PGA Tour and Champions Tour member, Jim Dent turned professional in 1966 and joined the PGA Tour in 1970. He was born May 9, 1939 in Augusta, GA and graduated from Laney High School.  In addition to playing professional golf, he gained renown as a caddy for 8 years at the Augusta National Golf Club and the Augusta Country Club. Jim Dent is a three-time consecutive winner (1976-1978) of the Florida PGA Championship. In 1989, he joined the Senior PGA Tour. Dent was inducted into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame in 1994. As of 2015, Jim Dent ranked 22nd on the Champions Tour all-time official wins of 10 or more events; Dent had 12 Champions Tour career victories.

The Lucy Craft Laney Museum is paying tribute to the 50 Years of Augusta National Black Caddies at its Golf Tournament this year on Saturday, May 21, 2022.  The tournament is sold out. All funds raised from the tournament will be used to renovate the Museum’s Administration building, which is in dire need of repairs. 

In addition to Jim Dent, the Museum is honoring Caddies Lewis Butler, Jessie “Main Man” Ross, Roy Dean, Horace Dent, Porky Dent, Bernard Dent, Carl Jackson, Jariah "Bubba" Beard, Robert “Cigarette” Jones, Tommy "Biscuit" Bennett, Marion Harrington, Carl Howard, Justin "Bud" Jackson, Richard Marshall, Leroy Johnson, Ike Choice, and Tommy Smalley.
