Lionel Smith Ltd. Will ‘Chalk it Up for Dad’

Staff Report

Friday, June 3rd, 2022

Father’s Day is June 19, a special day for Lionel Smith, Ltd.

Each year, the men’s clothier uses the holiday to highlight fathers in the community while supporting Children’s Place Inc. of Aiken, an organization that strengthens families.

“My dad, Lionel Smith, founded the store and has always been a very generous, giving individual, so it’s only fitting to celebrate Father’s Day while giving back to the community,” store owner Van Smith said. “We look forward every year to seeing the names of the fathers and hearing stories from the folks who stop by.”

During the Chalk It Up for Dad campaign, people who stop by Lionel Smith can write their father’s names on the sidewalk and trace their handprints to symbolize the mark their fathers leave on their lives. Lionel Smith, Ltd. will donate $5 to Children’s Place for every name written on the sidewalk.

The campaign will run June 1-18, and chalk will be available during the store’s business hours, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Children’s Place will be in front of the store June 1 and 8 with some sweet treats for people who stop by.

The mission of Children’s Place is to “protect, heal and strengthen children and families from the impact of trauma in their lives through education, treatment and prevention services.”

Lionel Smith, Ltd. is located at 132 Laurens St. SW, Aiken. For more information on Children’s Place, visit ChildrensPlaceInc.org.
