GHFB Gearing Up for It’s Spooky To Be Hungry Drive; Captains Needed
Tuesday, August 16th, 2022
Each year Golden Harvest Food Bank hosts its annual It’s Spooky To Be Hungry® food and fund drive, and this year the Food Bank is looking for additional Spooky neighborhood and business captains in Richmond and Aiken counties.
The food and funds drive brings community neighbors, businesses, and organizations together to collectively “scare away hunger”. Spooky captains have the role of promoting the competition to colleagues and friends, and implementing creative ideas to raise funds.
“What made me become a captain was to help my neighborhood have more community and get more people involved,” said Teri Booth, who began as a volunteer 22 years ago and is now a Spooky neighborhood captain. “And what better way than to do a food drive in your neighborhood.”
It’s Spooky To Be Hungry® was founded in 1992 with the goal of bringing people of all ages together in a fun, significant, community-building volunteer event to fight hunger.
Nearly 100 neighborhoods and dozens of businesses join forces each year for one of the nation’s most successful grassroots campaigns to combat food insecurity.
As a part of their rebrand this past March, Golden Harvest Food Bank partnered with Weir/Stewart to give the It’s Spooky to Be Hungry® ghost an updated look in celebration of the drive’s 30 year anniversary.
