Staff Report

Wednesday, September 7th, 2022

The Greater North Augusta Chamber of Commerce’s September Good Morning North Augusta will focus on homeless prevention in the Central Savannah River Area.

Join the Chamber on Thursday, September 8th to hear from our guest speakers: Derek Dugan (Director of Development, Salvation Army Kroc Center) and Vicki Miller-McCarthy (Coordinator of Social Services, Aiken County Public School District).

Dugan has chaired both the Augusta and the Aiken Task Force for the Homeless and is presently focused on finding solutions for homelessness and the funding and construction of a new homeless shelter and day services center. As Director of Development, his job includes fundraising, government relations and community outreach for The Salvation Army and the Kroc Center.

Miller-McCarthy has worked the last twenty years as an Attendance Supervisor for ACPSD, where she was responsible for intervention of truancy, chronic absenteeism, dropout prevention and collection. In response to the reauthorization of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, she has been appointed as the liaison for Aiken County Public Schools.

The Chamber’s Good Morning North Augusta will be held at the North Augusta Community Center at 7:30 am. Advanced registration is required at NorthAugustaChamber.org; $20 for Chamber Members and $30 for Visitors. Masks are not required but encouraged for this event.
