On September 4th, 2022, Wyatt and Madelyn Wilson had their Eagle Court of Honor at the Georgia Carolina Nature and Adventure Center, where they received recognition for earning Eagle Scout Rank. They are the first brother and sister to earn Eagle in the CSRA and the Georgia-Carolina Council.
The Eagle Scout rank is the highest and most prestigious achievement in Scouting. To earn Eagle, Scouts must earn at least 21 merit badges, fulfill leadership roles, display outdoor skills, demonstrate by example the Scout Oath and Law, and complete a comprehensive service project. Highly respected, the title of Eagle Scout carries with it special significance not only in Scouting but also in school, business, and the community.
Wyatt is a member of Troop 643 of American Legion Post 192. Wyatt's Scouting journey began in first grade as a Tiger Scout at a Pack in Michigan. His mother, Jenny Wilson, was his den leader. When the family moved to Georgia, Wyatt joined Pack 686, where he was a winner of his Pack Pinewood Derby. In fifth grade, Wyatt crossed over into Scouts BSA Troop 643. Since then, he has earned 50 merit badges, his favorite being archery. A highlight of Wyatt's Scouting journey was attending the 24th World Scout Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in Glen Jean, WV. Wyatt's Eagle Scout project was adding outdoor seating at Quest Church in Grovetown, GA. "The most important lessons I learned in Scouting were communication skills, how to be a leader, and most importantly, public speaking with confidence," said Wyatt.
Madelyn is a member of Troop 1615 of Wesley United Methodist Church and was the first Senior Patrol Leader for the Troop. While in Troop 1615, Madelyn earned 36 merit badges and many skills, including first aid, knot tying, navigational, and cooking skills. Her favorite merit badge earned was kayaking. Her Eagle Scout project was building 4 wheelchair-accessible picnic tables and four benches for Greenbrier High School in Evans, GA. Madelyn said, "The most important lesson I learned in Scouting was to ask for help and to use common sense.” Madelyn plans on attending Lee University when she graduates and wants to major in Psychology and Youth Ministry.
Madelyn and Wyatt's mom, Jenny Wilson, said, "I am very proud of both Madelyn and Wyatt, and I am proud that they completed this Scouting milestone together as a family."
Wyatt and Madelyn Wilson maintain a 4.0 GPA while attending Greenbrier High School. Along with Scouting, they each participate in over five extracurricular activities. They are also actively involved in the Order of the Arrow as OA representatives for their Troops. This past summer, Wyatt and Madelyn attended the National Order of the Arrow Conference with their mother at the University of Tennessee. During their time in Scouting, they participated in numerous activities, including backpacking, hiking, whitewater rafting, and climbing. They also learned life skills to push themselves outside their comfort zones. Both Wyatt and Madelyn said they would absolutely recommend Scouting to others.
