Augusta Sees Flat December Unemployment Rate

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Augusta’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.2 percent. A year ago, the unemployment rate was 3.2 percent.
“Georgia’s highly-skilled workforce and business-friendly environment continues to drive positive economic growth across all corners of the state,” said Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “With the unemployment rate trending lower than the national average, we are well-positioned to help businesses remain competitive and find top-tier talent.”
The labor force increased in Augusta by 743 and ended the month with 262,770. That number went down by 2,034 when compared to December of 2021.
Augusta finished the month with 254,406 employed residents. That number increased by 889 over the month and went down by 2,046 when compared to the same time a year ago.
Augusta ended December with 245,600 jobs. That number increased by 1,000 from November to December and rose by 5,000 when compared to this time last year.
The number of unemployment claims went up by 23 percent in Augusta in December. When compared to last December, claims were up by about 45 percent.
