RCSS Seeks Input for 2024-25 Academic Calendar

Staff Report

The Richmond County School System is asking for input on the 2024-25 academic calendar. Students, parents, employees, and community members are asked to vote on the two options. Option A is similar to our current academic calendar to include PowerUp Asynchronous Learning Days. Option B is a return to a more traditional calendar.

Dr. Malinda Cobb, Associate Superintendent of Academic Services, says, “Having community input into our academic calendar is important to our board of education and administration. We have two options that include periodic breaks, 90 days in each semester, and conclude by Memorial Day.”

“We would like input from the community on the best way to offer flexible learning days and parent conferencing opportunities. Calendar Option A offers four digital learning days, which allow staff to collaborate and meet with parents while students learn asynchronously at home. Calendar Option B offers a more traditional, in-person option with an early release day built into the middle of each semester for parent conferencing. We believe both options support student learning in two different ways,” says Cobb.

The calendars are posted at rcboe.info/24-25RCSSCalendar and the deadline to vote is March 1.
