Columbia County Fire Rescue Gets New Medical Equipment

Tuesday, March 14th, 2023

Columbia County Fire Rescue (CCFR) is excited to be the first in the area to equip three Rescue trucks and two administrative vehicles with the UE Video Laryngoscope (UE scope). This new medical equipment will be available for the 20 Paramedics with Columbia County Fire Rescue to use when they arrive on scene to care for a patient that has a blocked or damaged airway.

The UE Video Laryngoscope increases the first time intubation success rate by 97% and
allows for self-recording of intubation to be used for quality assurance and training purposes.
The UE scope’s curved blade improves the view of airways and ET tube placement by using a
stylet and bougie. The video technology piece of the UE scope provides a clear image for the
Paramedic to be able to capture all structures under the blade tip allowing for no blind spots.
CCFR purchased a total of five UE scopes at $1500/scope.

Columbia County Fire Rescue prides itself in being forward-thinking to equip their Rescue
trucks with the latest medical equipment so that they are can better serve and care for residents.
Over the last year, CCFR has purchased UE Video Laryngoscopes, cardiac monitors, LUCAS
chest compression machines, and added every drug to the Rescue truck a typical ambulance
would carry.

Lt. Jamarius Tate, EMS Training Coordinator, states. “"If we set ourselves up for success,
our end result will be success, and those results are better patient care and overall outcomes for
the citizens of Columbia County".
