The City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism will host a reception for renowned artists, Remi Bellocq and Sandy Glynn, onSunday, April 23, from 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Since 1984, TDN cartoonist Remi Bellocq has pursued a career involving various management positions in the racing industry while also following his love of cartooning. Son of famed Daily Racing Form cartoonist Pierre “Peb” Bellocq, Remi has had his work published in various racing publications over the past 30 years including Daily Racing Form, Lexington Herald-Leader, Blood-Horse and more recently, Florida Horse and Thoroughbred Daily News.

Sandy Glynn was an accomplished horsewoman in the show becoming a professional rider at eighteen. Glynn left the horse show world and foxhunting behind for the racetrack as an exercise rider and trainer. She rode for Hall of Fame trainer Elliott Burch (Rokeby) and Allen Jerkens. Many of the paintings in this exhibit are based on her time in Allen’s barn with his famous cadre of grooms whom she called “The Board of Directors” as they were so influential in the success of the stable. They included Duck Butter, Jimmy Harris, Wilbur, Pay Check and Harry Woodfork. You will see them in her work.

An exhibit of Bellocq’s and Glynn’s work will be on display at the Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame from April 23 - May 2. Regular exhibition hours are Tuesday - Friday from 2 - 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Sunday from 2 - 5 p.m. For more information, call 803-642-7631, e-mail [email protected] or visit the Hall of Fame website atwww.aikenracinghalloffame.com.
