Georgia-Carolina Council BSA Eagle Scout Banquet

Staff Report

Monday, May 1st, 2023

The Georgia-Carolina Council hosted their annual National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) Dinner on April 27th. The annual event had not been held since 2019, so this yeas event recognized Eagle Scouts from the classes of 2021 and 2022 for their recent achievement. The NESA Chapter updated those in attendance on the growing group of Eagle Scouts active in the local Eagle Scout organization and invited those who are not currently active to join. Then the recipient of the 2023 Augusta Kiwanis Club’s Sam Tyson Eagle Scout Scholarship award was announced. Will Symonds of Troop 643, who will attend Kennesaw State in the fall to study Mechanical Engineering will receive the actual award at the May 15th Kiwanis Club Meeting. Sam Tyson, a longtime Augusta resident was a dedicated Kiwanian and active in Scouting. Upon his passing the club set up an Endowment in his honor to provide an annual Scholarship to a graduating Eagle Scout from the Georgia-Carolina Council.

Distinguished Eagle Scout, Ret Col. Robert Schloesser then delivered the keynote speech. He discussed his experiences in the Transatlantic Council over the past 60 years.

Finally local NESA Chair Maury Locke presented Brian Graham with the 2023 Outstanding Eagle Scout Award. Brian has been instrumental in the development and growth of the Professional Disc Golf Association and the impact the organization has had nationally and globally.
