Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), the liquid waste contractor at the Savannah River Site (SRS), has donated $5,000 to the Savannah River Site (SRS) Heritage Foundation.
SRMC Chief Administrative Officer Mark Barth recently made the check presentation to Foundation founder Walt Joseph. The Savannah River Site Museum operates with the guidance of the SRS Heritage Foundation and is located in downtown Aiken at 224 Laurens St. SW, Aiken. The SRS Museum preserves and interprets the history of SRS, according to Barth.
“Savannah River Mission Completion is proud to be part of the unique, historic, and scientific legacy of SRS, and the stories that will live in perpetuity because the museum exists,” Barth said.
Joseph moved to Aiken in 1954 to work at the Savannah River Plant, now Savannah River Site, helping produce nuclear material that allowed the U.S. to win the Cold War. After retiring from SRS, his work continued as he led the drive to establish the museum 20 years later.
Walt Joseph has worked with great care to preserve artifacts and the history of SRS.
“We are thankful for Savannah River Mission Completion’s donation because it helps us to continue telling the large and varied story of the amazing past, present, and future of SRS,” Joseph said.
The SRS Museum was established to preserve and interpret the technical and scientific achievements, social impacts, and ecological accomplishments of the site. The museum operates in collaboration with the Aiken County Historical Museum and with the guidance of the SRS Heritage Foundation, who provided the building by Aiken County in 2015.
SRMC comprises parent company BWX Technologies, Inc. with partners Amentum and Fluor. Its team brings the capabilities necessary to accelerate cleanup at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site through safe nuclear operations, optimized and integrated mission execution, and strong corporate governance.
