Golden Harvest Food Bank is excited to announce its first college pantry partnership with East Georgia State College (EGSC) in Swainsboro, GA. The pantry will be the first of its kind to operate with a direct mission to service students facing food insecurity on a college campus. A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate this partnership will be held on June 8th at 3:30pm in the EGSC Academic Building lobby at the college’s main location at 131 College Circle Swainsboro, GA 30401.

“We are excited and grateful to partner with Dr. Schecter and East Georgia State College to become an additional resource of nourishment to help combat food insecurity at their institution,” said Amy Breitmann, President & CEO, Golden Harvest Food Bank. “Hunger should never be a burden that students have to carry.”

The Bobcat Pantry, an established program that currently provides students with basic necessities such as counseling, mentoring, personal care needs, and food assistance, will now have access to the food bank’s flow of food resources utilized by Golden Harvest’s over 350 partner agencies and programs.

“Students undernourished and unsure of where their next meal is coming from are more stressed and less likely to continue their education or thrive on a college campus,” said Dr. David Schecter, President of East Georgia State College. “The goal is to end hunger as we know it for those trying to make the most of their lives and complete a college degree. Food pantries provide support and hope to those in need and we want our Bobcat Pantry to be a model for other college pantries – we are well on our way, thanks to the great work of Golden Harvest!”
