Improvements in Georgia Milestone Scores for Richmond County School System Students
Monday, July 31st, 2023
More than 12,000 Richmond County School System students completed the Georgia Milestones during the 2022-23 school year and that data was released this morning by the Georgia Department of Education. Our teachers, testing coordinators, and instructional coaches were instrumental in reducing the number of days that students were tested from two weeks to one week. Our Information Technology employees were in schools to ensure students had replacement devices to not interrupt the flow of testing.
In response to the assessment scores, Dr. Kenneth Bradshaw, Superintendent of Schools, releases this statement:
“Our students’ performance on the Georgia Milestones this past spring indicates improvements in Math, English Language Arts, Algebra I and US History. Our students in 3rd, 5th and 7th grades have increased scores in Math. Scores for students who took the English Language Arts assessment in 3rd, 6th, and 8th grades improved this year also.
- R. Johnson Engineering and Health Science Magnet, Cross Creek High, and Lucy C. Laney High schools reported the highest scores in the district on the US History End of Course Assessment. Murphey Middle School reported the highest scores for students taking Algebra I.
These gains are a reflection of our ongoing commitment to arming our teachers with the resources they need to provide quality instruction to our students. While we celebrate these improvements, we will remain laser-focused on prioritizing an equitable education for all our more than 31,000 students. Our goals for the upcoming academic year will be to continue our literacy initiative with our community partners, build up our students' knowledge in all content areas and foster improved school-home relationships to engage with our parents.”
