RCSS Highlights Class of 2023 SAT Scores

Tuesday, September 26th, 2023

The Richmond County School System Class of 2023 posted some notable gains in several of our schools on the SAT last year. Scores were released today by the College Board and the Georgia Department of Education.

Dr. Kenneth Bradshaw, Superintendent of Schools, says, “The growth that we are seeing in the SAT scores is evidence of the commitment and hard work of our students who accepted the challenge to set high academic goals and came to school every day prepared to learn. Our teachers, guidance counselors and administrators are also to be recognized as they not only encouraged our students to take advanced classes but also added value to how the tests would prepare them for a future that includes college. We will continue to focus on improvement this year with the Class of 2024 as we want more students to take the SAT and more schools to beat the state average.”

Here are some highlights from the test results:

  • AR Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet and Davidson Fine Arts Magnet Schools beat the state average of 1045.

  • George P. Butler Comprehensive High School, Glenn Hills High School, Hephzibah Comprehensive High School, T.W. Josey Comprehensive High School, and Westside High School went up on the 2023 combined SAT score by an average of 29 points.

  • Butler High School and Glenn Hills High School have exceeded their pre-pandemic combined scores.

  • Butler, Glenn Hills, T.W. Josey, and Westside High Schools increased within their Evidenced Based Reading portion of the SAT.

  • Butler, Glenn Hills, T.W. Josey, and Westside High Schools increased within the Math portion of the SAT.
