Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) received a Legacy of Stars award at the annual Voluntary Protection Program Participants’ Association (VPPPA) Symposium held in Orlando, FL.

The Department of Energy (DOE) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) Legacy of Stars award distinguishes a company that has excelled in outreach and mentoring and has demonstrated sustained excellence in worker safety and health. The award is given to sites that have earned the VPP Star of Excellence for four consecutive years. SRNS has met this criteria each year by demonstrating the five elements of VPP: Management Leadership, Employee Involvement, Worksite Analysis, Hazard Prevention and Control, and Safety and Health Training.

Established in 1994, the DOE-VPP encourages and recognizes organizations who display excellence in occupational safety and health protection. This year marks the fourth Legacy of Stars award SRNS has received since becoming the Savannah River Site Management and Operations contractor in 2008 and the sixth award received historically.

“SRNS employees recognize the importance of a strong safety culture. It is also important to them that our company remain an industry leader in nuclear-and-workplace safety,” said SRNS President and CEO Dennis Carr. “Achieving this award is a meaningful validation from the DOE that SRNS’ safety systems are robust and most importantly, that our workforce embodies a solid commitment and belief in the importance of safety at work, home and in the community.”
