CSRA Heart Walk Co-Chairs Leading with Heart in Local Community

Tuesday, December 5th, 2023

Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death in the CSRA and Dr. Sean Alford, Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS), Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer, and Joel Cantrell, Savannah River Mission Completion (SRMC), ESH&Q Director, are working hand-in-hand with the American Heart Association, a global force for healthier lives for all, to change that. These community leaders will serve as co-chairmen for the 2023-2024 CSRA Heart Walk, a community campaign focused on engaging local community members, companies, corporations and their employees to join the fight against heart disease and stroke.

“Sean and I look forward to welcoming the community to celebrate survivors and remember those we’ve lost to heart disease,” co-chair Joel Cantrell, SRMC. “The Heart Walk is all about promoting the health and well-being of our community and supporting the Association’s lifesaving mission.”

The annual CSRA Heart Walk event will be on March 22nd, 2024, at SRP Park in North Augusta, SC beginning at 5 p.m. The American Heart Association, the leading voluntary health organization focused on heart and brain health for all, focuses the annual event on boosting physical health and raising lifesaving funds to support the mission.

Heart Walk participants and teams, alongside community members, are invited to celebrate heart and stroke survivors, raise lifesaving funds and encourage physical activity. Participants are invited to walk for their health at any location that inspires them if they can’t join us on Friday evening.

“As a survivor myself, it is an honor to lead this Heart Walk alongside Joel to inspire hope, resilience, and a healthier tomorrow for all,” co-chair Dr. Dean Alford, SRNS. “Together, we can save lives right here in the CSRA.”

To register, visit www.CSRAHeartWalk.org. From there, participants and companies can stay up to date by downloading the Heart Walk mobile app and encourage friends and family to join in via e-mail or on social media.

The CSRA Heart Walk is sponsored* by Piedmont Augusta, Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, Centerra-SRS, Solvay, Walton Rehabilitation Hospital, SRP Federal Credit Union, and MAU Workforce Solutions.

The funds raised from the Heart Walk go towards research, advocacy, CPR training and to promote better health in support of the Association’s 2024 Health Equity Impact Goal, reducing barriers to health care access and quality.
