Golden Eagle Celebration

Monday, December 4th, 2023

The Georgia-Carolina Council is excited to announce that it will honor Eagle Scout and community leader William S. “Will” Morris IV as the 2024 recipient of its prestigious Distinguished Citizen Award for unselfish service to area citizens.

The council will present the award during its Golden Eagle Celebration on Jan. 25 at the Richmond on Greene in downtown Augusta. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and its presenting sponsor is MAU Workforce Solutions.

The council’s Distinguished Citizen Award was established in 2018 to honor those who personify what Scouting represents – good citizenship, outstanding moral fiber with a dedication to others, and for living their lives by the Scout Oath and Law. The recipient does not have to be a Scouting volunteer to receive the award.

Past recipients of the award include retired U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Perry Smith, longtime community advocate Ann Boardman, Congressman Rick Allen, retired Augusta Circuit Superior Court Chief Judge Carl C. Brown Jr. and Mr. Randy Hatcher, president of MAU Workforce Solutions.

Beyond being the primary fundraising event for local Scouting, this event has become a local tradition to remind the community of the positive impact Scouting has on young people – the future leaders of our community. Scouts don’t just enjoy the outdoors; they learn values and skills that will last a lifetime. The keynote speaker for this year’s celebration is Aaron Linsdau. Mr. Linsdau is only the second American to ski alone from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole. At the

event, he will share stories of scaling Mount Kilimanjaro, his ski expedition through Yellowstone National Park, and his impactful experience in Scouting.
