Free Tax Preparation through United Way of the CSRA’s VITA Program Now Available

United Way of the CSRA is excited to announce the launch of its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program this tax season, which is designed to help eligible individuals and families prepare and e-file their taxes free of charge. The VITA program is designed to assist individuals or families who make $60,000 or less annually. It is intended to help those with low-to-moderate-income, persons with disabilities, and limited English-speaking taxpayers.

“With help of the VITA program, we’re able to help put hard-earned money back in the pockets of local taxpayers to build financial stability,” explains Angela Collins, Director of Community Impact at United Way of the CSRA. “We anticipate that we’ll help 300 individuals and families save approximately $100,000 this tax season thanks to the VITA program.”

Appointments must be made in order to receive the free tax prep services. Individuals can call 2-1-1 to schedule their appointment. For those who are not a candidate for the VITA program or would rather file their taxes on their own, this can be done for free online at MyFreeTaxes.com.

“Our IRS-trained volunteers help to ensure that everyone gets the tax credits and benefits they’re entitled to, all while saving them the tax preparation fees that can cost hundreds of dollars,” said Collins.

The VITA program offers tax preparation services free of charge for eligible individuals thanks to funding provided by Wells Fargo.

“Our support for United Way and their Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is part of Wells Fargo’s broader commitment to Augusta as the Bank of Doing,” noted Kristina Christy, Senior Community Impact and Sustainability Specialist for Wells Fargo. “From making financial education more accessible and housing more attainable, to empowering diverse small businesses and helping make communities more sustainable, doing makes communities stronger.”
