Keep Augusta Beautiful Meets With Neighborhoods to Share Mission and Discuss Recycling Right

Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Friday, June 7th, 2019

Keep Augusta Beautiful wants to get to know you! Over the last several months, the organization tasked with improving Augusta’s awareness around litter prevention and recycling, and beautification has been meeting with local organizations to share their mission and learn about Augusta’s neighborhoods. The next meeting they will appear at will be Thursday, June 13 with the Apple Valley Neighborhood Association at the Sheriff’s Office on Mike Padgett Hwy, 7-8 pm.

Established in 2018 by the Environmental Services Department of the City of Augusta, Keep Augusta Beautiful’s mission is literally in its name, and it involves 3 main areas of focus: litter prevention awareness, recycling education, and city beautification. It is a local division of Keep America Beautiful and Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, whose mission promotes those same programs on a national and state level.

While much of the work in establishing Keep Augusta Beautiful has been “behind the scenes,” to start the organization off on a good foundation, they have hosted and participated in several public events and cleanups, such as the CityServe city-wide cleanup day, free technology recycling days at the Augusta Landfill, composting demonstrations, and several meetings with local organizations to meet the people who are passionate about improving the quality of life in our city.

Most recently, Keep Augusta Beautiful met with the CSRA Neighborhood Alliance at the Henry Brigham Community Center on Saturday, June 1. They also met at the Diamond Lakes Community Center with Manchester NA, June 5, 6-7pm. Next, they will meet with Apple Valley Neighborhood Association on June 13 at the Mike Padgett Highway Sheriff’s office, 7-8pm.

If you are a community member that does not have a Neighborhood Association or simply wants to share your ideas and concerns, you can always join us every other month for our Community Advisory Meeting. The Next Community Advisor Meeting will be held at Shared Space (901 Greene Street) on June 14th, from 6-7pm.

To invite a member of Keep Augusta Beautiful to your own meetings and gatherings, you can contact Keep Augusta Beautiful at (706) 312-4125, [email protected]. Organizations can “Adopt A Spot” for periodic cleanups, volunteer for recycling drives, and more. Keep Augusta Beautiful looks forward to meeting you!
