Mayor Hardie Davis, Jr. and global hunger relief organization World Central Kitchen are partnering with Golden Harvest Food Bank to provide nearly 30,000 meals weekly for local residents. The meals will be delivered weekly to the Golden Harvest Food Bank Augusta Warehouse, which will serve as a distribution hub for 13 local hunger relief and social service organizations to provide to families in need.

“COVID 19 has impacted the ability of many local families and seniors to put food on the table,” said Augusta Mayor Hardie Davis. “This partnership with World Central Kitchen makes it possible for the most vulnerable citizens in our community to know that even in times of social distancing and self-isolation they are not alone. We care about them and their most basic needs,” Davis added.

Meals from World Central Kitchen are made from fresh ingredients and refrigerated. They will be used locally to supplement Monday –Friday meal distribution programs to extend food options to families for the weekends when food programs are not as easily accessed.

“Hearing from a number of people the challenges of obtaining quality, fresh food during this crisis made us look for solutions to help the people who needed it most. Partnerships like this take the expertise of global problem solvers and apply them in a practical way to help Augustans. For that, I am thankful,” said Mayor Davis.

Golden Harvest Food Bank has a 38-year history of feeding families in our region. Their expertise made them a natural fit to provide logistical support and help identify neighborhoods and agencies that would most benefit from this program.

“We are so thankful to Mayor Davis and World Central Kitchen for this incredible gift to our community,” said Amy Breitmann, Executive Director, Golden Harvest Food Bank. “These meals will be life-changing, especially for our elderly neighbors who have difficulty preparing food and for working parents with kid’s home from school. This partnership is an incredible example of what can happen when we harness the power of a community in unison to help those who are most vulnerable.”

Participating Agencies include: Augusta Rescue Mission, Boys and Girls Club of the CSRA, CSRA Regional Commission (Area Agency on Aging), Dream Center, Family Y, First Responders, Garden City Rescue Mission, Golden Harvest Food Bank, Head of the Giant Ministries, Hope House Augusta, Mosaic Center, and The Salvation Army.
