Augusta University Campuses Reopen with Modified Instructional Plan Today

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Monday, October 7th, 2024

The impact of Hurricane Helene continues to be felt deeply throughout our community, and the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff and their families remain our top priority as our community recovers from this devastating storm.

We want to thank everyone who has worked so hard to help the AU community in this unprecedented time of need.

Our Health Sciences, Summerville and Riverfront Campuses have power, water and internet connectivity, and are ready for a resumption of operations.

While our Augusta campuses will reopen on Monday, Oct. 7, we recognize that not all students and faculty will be able to resume learning and teaching on that date.

To move forward in a way that provides a degree of normalcy while allowing for flexibility, we will reopen with a modified instructional plan for the week of Oct. 7.

Students

  • Students will resume instruction in the modality in which their course has been delivered this semester, if possible. However, if you are unable to return to campus for an in-person class, a virtual or asynchronous option will be provided.

  • Students unable to resume instruction on Monday should notify their instructors.

  • All lectures will be recorded, and students will have access to these sessions through D2L.

  • There will be no undergraduate exams or quizzes the week of Oct. 7.

  • Fall Pause will continue as previously scheduled.

  • The last day to withdraw from classes without academic penalty has been extended to Oct. 28.

  • All residence halls have power and water and will open on Sunday, Oct. 6 at noon.

  • Dining services will begin with a Sunday brunch on Oct. 6 in the Atrium Dining Hall from 11– 2.

  • On Monday, Oct. 7, shuttle and dining services will be operational.

Students returning from Gordon State College

  • Students returning from Gordon State College will receive additional information from Housing & Residence Life regarding transportation and dining.

MCG/DCG Students

  • Please follow the guidance provided previously by your respective colleges.

Faculty

  • All faculty will resume instruction on Oct. 7, if possible. Instruction may be online or in person with a virtual option that includes lecture capture. This allows students to attend in person if applicable, attend synchronously from remote locations, or watch lectures when they are able.

  • Faculty unable to resume instruction on Oct. 7 should work with their college leadership to identify an alternative instructional plan to deliver missed educational content and communicate that plan with their students.

  • All faculty need to provide an updated syllabus in D2L by Oct. 14.

  • Faculty will receive additional information and resources from the Office of the Provost.

Staff

  • All staff should return to their normal work assignments and report according to their work schedule, if possible.

  • Staff unable to resume their normal work assignments should contact their supervisor to discuss alternate work arrangements.

The upcoming week will not be perfect. We are heartened to see the incredible support and solidarity among students, faculty and staff.

Healing is a journey, and together, we will navigate this path with compassion and determination.

Thank you for your courage and resilience. Let us continue to support each other and look forward to brighter days ahead.
