The Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Committee recently endorsed the continuation of the 1% Sales and Use Tax for Educational Purposes in Richmond County. It is important to note that this is not a new tax but rather an extension of the existing 1% tax that has already played a crucial role in supporting educational initiatives across the county. Voters are encouraged to vote "Yes" on this significant referendum in the upcoming election.

At the latest Board of Directors meeting, Dr. Kenneth Bradshaw, Superintendent of the Richmond County School System, presented the importance of continuing this tax to support various essential projects. The extension is projected to raise up to $500,000,000 and will go towards constructing and renovating school buildings, improving classroom technology, upgrading athletic and arts facilities, and maintaining school safety through new buses and vehicles.

Voting "Yes" on this extension will ensure Richmond County continues investing in its schools and students without adding a new tax burden. The tax will fund necessary projects, such as replacing aging roofs, upgrading HVAC systems, and enhancing both educational and extracurricular facilities, which are essential for a modern learning environment.

Angie Cox, President of the Augusta Metro Chamber, stressed the importance of the tax for the future of the local workforce. “Investing in education is investing in our community’s future. The continuation of the 1% education sales tax will empower our schools to provide the resources and opportunities our students deserve. Let’s come together and vote yes for our students, our educators, our community and our future workforce.”

The Chamber encourages all voters to consider the value this tax extension brings to Richmond County schools and cast a "Yes" vote for the future of public education.
