Atlanta Gas Light Promotes Safe Digging in Augusta through GreenJackets Sponsorship
Friday, August 8th, 2025
Atlanta Gas Light was the official sponsor of a recent Augusta GreenJackets game to raise awareness about the importance of safe digging. The sponsorship highlighted the role that the community plays in keeping Augusta neighborhoods and infrastructure safe.
The evening reflected Atlanta Gas Light’s commitment to being a responsible community partner and was a part of a broader community outreach campaign centered around reminding residents to contact 811 before beginning any digging projects. “Safety and our customers are at the center of our operations,” said East Georgia Regional Director, Roy Chapman.
“This sponsorship allowed Atlanta Gas Light to connect directly with the Augusta community in a memorable and meaningful way.”
Throughout the evening, GreenJackets’ fans were shown educational videos that highlight the critical steps to keep “safety always in the lineup.” Atlanta Gas Light also distributed informational resources that allow fans to familiarize themselves with the color-coded markings that indicate underground utilities infrastructure.amiliarize themselves with the color-coded markings that indicate underground utilities infrastructure.
As the largest natural gas distribution utility in the Southeast, Atlanta Gas Light maintains over 35,000 miles of underground infrastructure. Pipelines were built underground as a means to protect the public from potential risks associated with damaging this infrastructure. But still, Georgia had almost 52 incidents per day where underground infrastructure was damaged last year. Ongoing growth and infrastructure improvements across the state make safe digging more important than ever.
