Stan Shepherd Recognized as Local Defense Community Champion
Friday, December 5th, 2025

The Association of Defense Communities (ADC) honors Stan Shepherd as a Local Defense Community Champion.
Mr. Shepherd is one of only 27 individuals from across the nation to receive this distinction, which celebrates people who go above and beyond to strengthen the connection between military installations and the communities that support them. The Defense Community Champions program highlights the dedicated leaders, whether on base, in local government, industry, or the nonprofit sector, who work tirelessly to improve quality of life, foster collaboration, and enhance mission readiness in defense communities.
Mr. Shepherd was recognized during a special ceremony at the Navy Federal Credit Union in Grovetown, Georgia, alongside other local leaders and community partners committed to supporting service members, veterans, and their families
“Mr. Shepherd’s selection as one of only 27 Defense Community Champions nationwide is a testament to his unwavering commitment to strengthening the bond between Fort Gordon and the community we call home. His leadership, humility, and relentless dedication embody the very spirit of service this award was created to honor. The impact of his work—improving quality of life, fostering collaboration, and supporting mission readiness—will be felt for years to come. We are proud to stand with him and celebrate this well-deserved recognition.” (Dr. Tom Clark, executive director for the Alliance for Fort Gordon)
