GRU Recognized for Partnership With Local Boys and Girls Club

The Georgia Area Council has named Georgia Regents University the recipient of the organization's 2014 Children Are Reason for Excellence (C.A.R.E.) Award. The Boys and Girls Club of the CSRA nominated GRU for this award and the university was recognized during Georgia's Area Council and Alliance Meeting held in Atlanta on Oct. 17.
he Georgia Area Council and the Boys and Girls Club of the CSRA are both affiliates of the Boys and Girls Club of America. As a non- profit organization providing after-school programs, the Boys and Girls Club of the CSRA submitted GRU has a nominee to recognize the partnership and initiatives the university offers at the club.
These programs include on-site dental screenings, nutritional and physical activities for youth battling obesity, and GRU's Foster Grandparents Program which provides children with learning activities during their summer break. According to club officials, 84% of the children that participated in this program were reading on their grade level.
This is the first time the university has received this award.
