Augusta Canal Boat Captain Left Corporate World to Pursue Passion

On a sunny July morning, Traye Jackson reached out his hand to assist a woman loading one of two Petersburg boats parked along the Augusta Canal.

“Good morning,” he said with a smile as he guided the woman onto the 65-foot boat. “I’ll be your captain today.”

Once everyone was loaded, Jackson navigated away from the dock near Enterprise Mill and began his first tour of the day. The boat returned about a half-hour later, and Jackson helped patrons off the boat, his signature smile still on his face.
