IRONMAN 70.3 Augusta

Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Wednesday, September 9th, 2015

The 7th annual IRONMAN 70.3 Augusta is right around the corner, September 27th! The 70.3 starts with a 1.2 mile swim in the Savannah River, 56 mile bike ride through Aiken County, South Carolina and then will finish with 13.1 (half marathon) through Downtown Augusta.

The event is the LARGEST IRONMAN 70.3 event in the world and the Augusta Sports Council, serving as the Local Organizing Committee, estimates the event will bring in about 4 million dollars of direct visitor spending. This is money that will be spent that weekend from athletes and their friends/families staying in our hotels and spending money in our local businesses.

New this year to the race weekend, is the UnitedHealthcare IRONKIDS Augusta Fun Run which will take place the Saturday before the triathlon, September 26. Race entry is $15 and the race is geared towards children ages 3-14. To sign your child up, click here!

You don't have to run the triathlon to be involved! Come out and cheer on the athletes or even volunteer! For volunteer opportunities click here.

AJ Sills, Race Director for IRONMAN 70.3 Augusta says, "From all of us at IRONMAN, we’re looking forward to having another great race week in Augusta. To all the athletes, we wish you the best of luck and we’ll see you on race day!"
