Is Uber Causing the Decline of Cab Companies in Augusta?
Wednesday, October 14th, 2015
Six months after the ride-sharing app, Uber, launched in Augusta, taxi services are struggling and many feel cheated out of their market.
Local cab companies are upset that they have to pay for licenses for their drivers while Uber drivers do not. Yellow Cab of Augusta Owner David Fields thinks Uber should play by the same rules as cab companies. He said, “I just think they should have to go by the same regulations every other cab company in America goes by. If they want to operate in Augusta, Georgia. They should buy a business license in Augusta, Georgia.” Fields has lost both business and employees to Uber in the last six months. In Georgia, Uber drivers do not have to have business or Hack Licenses but are required to have special tax tags and chauffeur endorsements.
