The 19th annual Head of the South Regatta, hosted by the Augusta Rowing Club, returns to Augusta, Saturday, November 14. Rowers from clubs and collegiate teams will compete on the Savannah River in a 5,000 meter course, beginning at Hammond's Ferry and ending at the Boathouse.  

Last year H.O.T.S, had 40 rowing clubs which is about 1,500 athletes, compete. This year the Augusta Rowing Club expects 2,800 out of town visitors which includes athletes, coaches and visitors. Teams will come from all over the southeast - from Florida to Virginia and as far east as Louisiana.

New this year, there will be a special exhibition of the world's largest rowing shell - the Stampfli Express from Switzerland. Normal boats hold 8 rowers, 1 coxswain, where the Stampfil Express allows 24 and 1 coxswain.

Spectators are welcome to come watch and cheer on the rowers. Viewing areas include The Boathouse (101 Riverfront Dr.), the Marina and anywhere along the Augusta Riverwalk.

Head Coach and Boathouse Manager, Brad Holdren says, " I encourage locals to come check out the sport and to come introduce their selves! We are always looking for new members and are interested in expanding and teaching people about the sport of rowing!"

Races will go throughout the day, with the first race starting at 7:30 am and the last at 4:45 pm.
