Final 1.3 Million-Pound Steam Generator Arrives at Vogtle Nuclear Expansion
Friday, November 20th, 2015
Georgia Power announced today that the fourth and final 1.3 million-pound steam generator has arrived at the Vogtle nuclear expansion site from South Korea. The steam generator for Unit 4 arrived through the Port of Savannah and traveled to the construction site near Waynesboro, Ga. via train.
Each new AP1000 unit at Plant Vogtle requires two steam generators. Steam generators, measuring more than 80 feet long, are heat exchangers used to convert water into steam using the heat produced in a nuclear reactor core.
