Action Medical Center announces the formation of the first integrated medical and chiropractic practice of its kind in the CSRA. The new center combines the expertise of medical, chiropractic and physical therapy practitioners to provide pain relief without the use of potentially harmful drugs.

A new poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that 56% of Americans have a close personal connection to someone who has abused prescription painkillers. Dr. Kathryn Webb of Action Medical states, “This poll demonstrates the importance of using other methods of treating both acute and chronic pain. It is easy to simply mask pain by prescribing potentially addictive drugs but it is rarely the best course of action.”

Overuse of prescription opioids is a national problem that is affecting our local area. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released data earlier this year that shows most heroine abusers have a history of abusing prescription drugs. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Department has publicly stated that they have seen an increase in both prescription opioid and heroine abuse in the past two years.

The American Public Health Association has called for increased action by the medical community to reduce the abuse of opioids. Among the recommendations is a need to utilize integrated chiropractic care as an alternative to pain medications. Integrated medical practices use the least invasive methods available to find and treat the causes of pain.

Action Medical Center provides complimentary initial consultations to anyone living with acute or chronic pain that wishes to explore non-opioid alternatives to treatment.
