10th Annual Undercover Artists Show Is Bigger and Better Than Ever

Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Monday, March 14th, 2016

500 artists. More than 250 children. And more than $270,000. Walton Foundation for Independence is celebrating the big 10—10 years of supporting children and young adults with a traumatic brain injury through its popular Undercover Artists Show.

Over the past 10 years, the event has auctioned off work donated by 500 local artists and raised more than a quarter-million dollars to help send more than 250 children and young adults with a TBI to a week of summer camp (the camp itself has served more than 400 campers during its own 22-year history). The 10th annual event promises to be bigger and better than ever, while still supporting the same mission: Camp To Be Independent, one of the nation’s only camps for children and young adults with a traumatic brain injury.

The 2016 event is Thursday, April 28 and moves to a new location this year, the Legends Club.  But it will remain a casual attire event with a unique auction of “undercover” art created by local artists, celebrities and community leaders just for this event. All artists’ names are hidden until the very end of the silent auction so that each piece can be judged and bid upon based on its own merit and appeal to the bidder, supporting the concept that that abilities shouldn’t be judged by a preconceived notion.

This year’s event will be preceded by the 2nd annual 5K Run With Art in Memory of Kath Engler on Saturday, April 23, beginning and ending at HealthSouth Walton Rehabilitation Hospital, 1355 Independence Dr. The renowned local artist and sculptor was a longtime supporter of the Undercover Artists Show.

Proceeds from both events help send more than 50 children and young adults ages 8 to 21 to Camp To Be Independent, Walton Foundation’s summer spend-the-night camp for those with an acquired brain injury—at absolutely no charge. The 5K will also benefit Walton Winter Weekend, a winter camp for children with physical disabilities and their families.

The 10th annual Undercover Artists Show is Thursday, April 28, at 7 p.m. at the Legends Club, 2701 Washington Rd. Tickets are $50. To make your reservations, contact the Walton Foundation for Independence at 706-826-5809 or email [email protected].

The 2nd annual 5K Run With Art event is Saturday, April 23, at 8:30 a.m. on the HealthSouth Walton Rehabilitation Hospital campus, 1355 Independence Dr. Pre-registration is $25 or $30 on the day of the event; children’s registration is $10. All those who register by April 10 will receive a signature T-shirt. To register, visit www.waltonfoundation.net/5K.
