Augusta Lawyers Compete to Benefit Golden Harvest Food Bank in 5th Annual Georgia Legal Food Frenzy
Wednesday, March 16th, 2016
Last week in the state Capitol, Attorney General Same Olens was joined with representatives of Georgia’s eight regional food banks to launch the 5th Annual Georgia Legal Food Frenzy, a statewide food drive competition among Georgia lawyers. Locally, Augusta law firms are gearing up to compete against each other to raise food and funds to benefit Golden Harvest Food Bank. The 2016 competition will take place April 18, 2016 – April 29, 2016, and sign ups for law firms are open now.
The Georgia Legal Food Frenzy is a partnership between the Georgia Attorney General, the Young Lawyers Division and the Georgia Food Bank Association. Lawyers statewide are challenged to compete outside the courtroom to raise food and funds for Georgia’s eight regional food banks, which serve 156,500 unique clients in Georgia on a weekly basis. All of the food and funds collected are donated to the regional food bank that serves each competitor’s community.
“We are excited to launch the Legal Food Frenzy in Augusta,” said Travis McNeal, Executive Director of Golden Harvest Food Bank, “each year the Augusta firms really get into the competition and support the cause behind it, and that is to feed the hungry in our community. Each year has been better than the last and we are excited to see what the firms do this year.”
In its first four years of competition, the Legal Food Frenzy raised the equivalent of more than 3.7 million pounds of food for Georgians in need. In Augusta, participating law firms have raised the equivalent of more than 264,000 pounds of food.
All attorneys in the CSRA, from law firms, to solo-practitioners, to public sector offices are encouraged to participate. Donations of both food and funds are accepted. Golden Harvest is able to turn every $1 received into over $9 of distributed food, because they are able to leverage bulk buying power and donated food channels.
The office that raises the most food and funds statewide will be awarded the Attorney General’s Cup. Awards will also be given to local winners. Golden Harvest Food Bank will host a kickoff party for the Augusta branch of the competition on Thursday, April 14th at the Partridge Inn “PI in the Sky” Penthouse.
