Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Champions Made From Adversity has announced that it will merge with the Walton Foundation for Independence—forming the area’s largest nonprofit offering sports and leisure programs specifically designed for those with disabilities.

The nonprofit CMFA was founded in 2007 with a mission to advance the lives of those with physical disabilities through sports and leisure activities. With the merger, Walton Foundation for Independence will continue CMFA’s multiple sports programs, including the popular Adaptive Water Skiing Clinic, which takes place this year on Saturday, June 25 at Fort Gordon’s Points West, 6703 Washington Rd. in Appling.

Jeff Snover, Co-founder and immediate past Chairman of CMFA BOD shared that “the mission of both organizations is so similar, it made sense to seek a merger that would streamline the operational and business side in an effort to potentially open more doors of opportunity for people with disabilities in the CSRA to experience adapted sport and leisure activities”.

Walton Foundation for Independence was founded in 1998 and today supports the work of like-minded organizations serving people with disabilities and offers its own programs, including adaptive golf, wheelchair tennis and camps for children with disabilities.

Vicki Greene, Vice President of Development for Walton Foundation said “the two programs have worked so well together over the years and Walton Foundation looks forward to continuing the great programs of CMFA and offering even more adaptive sports in our area through this partnership”.

CMFA and Walton Foundation for Independence will begin partnering on all programs immediately, with the merger expected to become official later this year upon approval by the state’s attorney general, at which point all programs will continue under the Walton Foundation for Independence name.
