PyNight Makes Statement that Pi Day (3/14) Is Not Just for Math Lovers

Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Friday, March 11th, 2016

Math lovers, step aside: Tech gurus in Augusta are planning to take over Pi Day (3/14) by offering their own event: PyNight, and everyone’s invited!

Booz Allen Hamilton in collaboration with theClubhou.se is hosting a friendly Python hackathon competition and FREE training session on Monday, March 14 from 5 to 9 p.m. at theClubhou.se, 540 Telfair St. in downtown Augusta.

All Python skill levels—from noobs to gurus—are welcome to attend, and mentors will be available to assist beginners.

During the hackathon, Python-based challenges include a variety of easy/medium/difficult puzzles for individuals/small teams. Points will be earned for every puzzle completed successfully, with a leaderboard displaying results throughout the night. Solutions will also be reviewed based on audience request. Experienced Python coders will be also available to assist hackers with anything Pythonic: the basics, common modules, special techniques, good coding practices and more.

Meanwhile, the Noob Nook will offer an introductory lesson for anyone interested in getting started with Python. Both children and adults are welcome.

“Our goal is to enhance the local Python community's expertise through fun, challenging problem sets, while also encouraging the growth of beginner Pythonistas via knowledge sharing from experienced mentors,” said Booz Allen Hamilton associate Jessica Grider. “PyNight is intended to be an exciting mechanism to advance your Python skills and foster collaboration across the local Python community.”

Attendees should bring a laptop with a version of Python installed. A limited number of desktops are available. The event is free, but registration is requested. Visit http://www.meetup.com/HackAugusta/events/229466536/ for more information.
