Augusta Recreation and Parks Department Names New Head Pro at Newman Tennis Center

Thomas “Tom” Snelson has accepted the position of Tennis Program Supervisor/Head Pro with the Augusta Recreation and Parks Department. A meet and greet drop-in is scheduled for Wednesday, May 4th, 5:30pm until 7:30 pm at Newman Tennis Center and the public is invited to attend. Tom will be responsible for overseeing and building new tennis programs offered by the Augusta Recreation and Parks Department at Newman Tennis Center as well as other tennis facilities operated by the Department.
Tom comes to Augusta after most recently serving as the head men’s tennis coach at Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista, Virginia.Tom graduated from Brigham Young University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science. While in school, Snelson played #2 singles and doubles for the BYU tennis team. As a senior he helped the Cougars reach the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA. Currently Snelson holds professional ratings in the Professional Tennis Registry for adult development, high performance, 11-17, and 10 & under. He was a high school coach for three years and has spent numerous years as a private tennis coach.
