Hull Barrett, PC, Ivey Residential, and The Augusta Chronicle Partner to Fight Childhood Hunger in the CSRA

Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Wednesday, April 20th, 2016

After a successful campaign for Golden Harvest in 2014 and 2015, Hull Barrett is once again raising food, funds, and awareness for childhood hunger.  Ivey Residential, also a partner in the 2015 campaign, and The Augusta Chronicle generously partnered with Hull Barrett to help augment awareness about a prevalent hunger situation in areas the companies serve.  The partnership hopes to raise 55,000 pounds between April 18 and April 29, 2016.

The BackPack Program is a service that sends packs full of nutritious, easy to open food home with elementary students on Fridays so the student will have sustenance over the weekend.  Without these backpacks, many of these children would go without food over weekend.  These children rely on the free breakfast and lunches provided at school.  Golden Harvest supplies almost 2,500 students with supplemental meal packs.  Other statistics include:

- 1 in 5 Georgians struggle with hunger

- 1 in 4 children struggle with hunger

- Golden Harvest distributed 229,000 pounds of food in its BackPack Program in 1 year

- Golden Harvest is able to provide food to the children through the BackPack Program for $5 per week, per student

- $180 covers the cost of 1 student for an entire year

- Golden Harvest distributes 14.2 million pounds of food per year

- Golden Harvest serves 30 counties

Hull Barrett is a long supporter of Golden Harvest and its mission.  “Chronic hunger can cause children to be more susceptible to illness, memory and concentration problems, and learning disabilities, each of with can hinder education and development.  The Golden Harvest Food Bank addresses this problem by providing quality food and other groceries to those in need.  Its purpose is fundamental to our community.  I am excited to be supporting Legal Food Frenzy, and I hope we can get many others to join in this effort,” Christopher Cosper, attorney at Hull Barrett and currently serving on the Golden Harvest Board of Directors.

“Giving back is important to Ivey Homes and with the basic need of hunger not being met in our area, the Legal Food Frenzy is a natural partnership we look forward to helping with annually in an effort to do our part to meet that need,” Caroline Ashe, Sales and Marketing Director for Ivey Residential.

The Augusta Chronicle, also passionate about Golden Harvest’s mission, is supporting the campaign as a media partner.

In creating a goal for 2016, the partnership not only wants to raise funds, but also to increase visibility to the statistics that plague the CSRA: 1 in 4 children are food insecure!  Together, the goal is to make the CSRA a less hungry place.

Hull Barrett, Ivey Residential, and The Augusta Chronicle thank all of the individuals and companies that will help the campaign reach its goal of 55,000 pounds in 2 weeks.
