Hull Barrett, PC Celebrates Growth and 100 Year Anniversary in Augusta

Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Tuesday, May 10th, 2016

Hull Barrett is ringing in the 100 years through expansion.  With 3 locations, Hull Barrett made the strategic move to increase space in the Evans, Georgia location.  The remodel and expansion is now complete, and Hull Barrett occupies the entire 3rd floor of the Security Federal building on Evans Towne Center Boulevard.  As Columbia County continues to see growth, especially in residential real estate, it is important for the firm to adequately serve its clients.  Even Hull Barrett’s non-real estate clients request meetings in the Evans location for convenience.  Additional conference room space was necessary in order to better serve the needs of clients.

Two Hull Barrett Associates, after years of excellent service to Hull Barrett, have been promoted to Partner.

- Paul Simons is licensed in both Georgia and South Carolina with his office in the Aiken location of Hull Barrett.  Paul’s law practice centers on representing banking and corporate clients in transactions such as commercial loans, real estate acquisitions, development and leasing, and corporate mergers and acquisitions.  Paul has been practicing law at Hull Barrett since 2007.

- Brian Coursey is licensed in both Georgia and South Carolina with his office in the Evans location of Hull Barrett.  Brian’s practice focuses on estate planning and tax law.  Brian began his career as a CPA receiving his undergraduate degree in Accounting from University of Florida which amplifies his financial law practice.  Brian is a Augusta Exchange Club Member, Community Foundation for the CSRA Panel Member, Family Counseling Center of the CSRA Past President and Member, Georgia-Carolina Counsel of the Boy Scouts of America Executive Board Member, Trinity on the Hill UMC Foundation Board Member, and Leadership Columbia County Alumni.  Brian has been practicing law with Hull Barrett since 2010.

In addition to office space expansion and promotions, Hull Barrett has hired 3 attorneys in a proactive approach to meeting the increasing legal needs of clients: Benjamin McElreath, James Ouellette, and Aimee Pickett Sanders.

- Benjamin McElreath operated a solo law practice in Augusta Georgia for nearly 40 years.  He brings a wealth of real estate knowledge to the firm and will work out of the Evans location to bolster the residential real estate practice.  Hull Barrett has seen an increase in real estate law as a whole.   Mr. McElreath also serves this community through numerous organizations including serving on the board of Heart and Sole, Inc. since its inception.  “Upon my arrival 39 years ago in Augusta as a young lawyer, I quickly learned of the great reputation that the Hull firm had in Augusta and throughout the Southeast. Prior to joining Hull Barrett as a partner, I worked with many of the fine lawyers of Hull Barrett on numerous matters, all with great results for mutual clients.  Now that I have joined the firm, it is my desire to uphold the legacy of Hull Barrett.”

- After 21 years as an Officer of the U.S. Navy, James Ouellette joins the firm with knowledge of civil litigation, national security, and cyber law, an important addition to the firm with the growth of Fort Gordon and cyber related businesses.

- Aimee Pickett Sanders joins Hull Barrett with deep community service roots and joins the litigation team, dedicating a large percentage of time to the employment law practice group.  Hull Barrett serves a variety of corporations across many industries, but employment law allows the firm to service clients with preventative measures.

Coupling with cyber law, Hull Barrett is also increasing intellectual property representation in order to assist corporate clients as the digital universe requires an evolving method of business and asset protection.

Along with attorney hires, Hull Barrett has also hired a variety of other personnel.  Altogether, the firm has increased staff by almost 10%.

David Hudson, Hull Barrett’s Managing Partner, weighs in on this momentous occasion:

It is with great pride that in this 100th anniversary of the founding of Hull Barrett by Judge William Barrett and James Meriwether Hull, that we welcome three new lawyers to our firm.  Ben McElreath has been one of the most outstanding lawyers in Augusta, and one of its admired citizens for almost 40 years.  Formerly in solo practice, he has now joined our firm and will primarily practice from our Evans office.  Jim Ouellette, recently finished 20 years of military service as a Navy lawyer with postings throughout the United States and overseas.  We welcome Jim and his family back to Augusta, his wife’s home.  Jim will be practicing from our downtown Augusta office.  Aimee Sanders has obtained valuable experience in her 7 years of practice and has become an integral part of the Augusta community.  Aimee joins the firm’s litigation practice in the downtown Augusta office.

Much about greater Augusta has changed in the last 100 years.  One constant has been the desire of this firm to provide the very best representation to its individual, business and government clients in this region of the state.  We welcome these new lawyers as we look to continue this tradition of service for years to come.
