Staff Report From Augusta CEO

Thursday, July 14th, 2016

The July Candlelight Wine & Dine Concert will feature a familiar face to jazz lovers in the Greater Augusta area. Wayne Hoey, long-time leader of several ensembles and programs, will reunite with his flagship band, All That Jazz, to present a trip down memory lane, this Saturday, July 16, at the Columbia County Amphitheater.

Hoey settled in Augusta after retiring from the military and was an active leader in the music community for years. Under his leadership, he developed what is now the Candlelight Jazz Concert Series, the Conservatory Jazz Band, and worked with numerous organizations and agencies as an unofficial ambassador for jazz music.

“Wayne visits Georgia every summer, and we’ve been talking about doing a project together for several years now, Karen Gordon, said. “I had no idea that he would put the original band back together, so I’m ecstatic.”

The band members, Hoey, Mike Bielenberg, Dan Knowles, and Ari T Gosa; were at the heart of the Augusta jazz scene during the 1980s and 90s. Previous band members are welcomed to sit in a special reserved section. VOXNBASS will perform the opening set.

Candlelight Wine&Dine is a celebration of music and community which features a few of the hottest regional touring bands and local up & coming artists. Held at the picturesque Columbia County Amphitheater, bring your own seating and picnic and enjoy jazz, soul, R&B, spoken word, rock, funk, and gospel music; with a backdrop of live art demos. Children ages 12 & under admitted free.

Artists performing throughout the summer include Matthew Davis & Nu Soul, Reggie Sullivan + Jmichael Peeples, AE the Cool, ATL DreamVision, and more. A portion of proceeds will be donated to the Wycliffe Gordon Scholarship at Augusta University.
