RCBOE Passes Tentative Millage Rate for FY 2017
Thursday, August 11th, 2016
At a Called Board Meeting on August 9th, the Richmond County Board of Education approved a tentative millage rate of 19.754 mills, a reduction of .218 mills from the previous two years. This rollback rate demonstrates the Board’s commitment to meeting the needs of our school system, and community, without increasing taxes.
"I believe the taxpayers in Richmond County will be pleased to know we are lowering the millage rate. This will provide a decrease in their property tax." said RCBOE President Helen Minchew. “We have been in a much better financial position the last two years and by keeping our expenditures down and utilizing our resources, we do not need to raise taxes.”
“With Dr. Pringle, we’ve been able to eliminate furlough days, provide raises for all employees, and allow the system to continue to serve children’s academic needs, all without increasing taxes” said RCBOE Member Barbara Pulliam.
According to Superintendent Dr. Angela Pringle “One of our strategic goals is operational efficiency. With the support of the Board of Education, we’ve been able to be more strategic with the use of our dollars to support higher academic achievement”.
