Augusta University to Host 2 Cybersecurity Conferences in September

Students, faculty and community members will have a chance to learn the latest on cybersecurity from experts in the field during two cyber conferences hosted by Augusta University this week.
EVENTS:
The Security Onion User’s Conference will help participants better understand and use Security Onion, a free software used for network security monitoring and intrusion detection. The software, which is based on Ubuntu Linux, has been downloaded 300,000 times worldwide. The Security Onion User’s Conference is hosted and sponsored by the Augusta University student chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery.
BSidesAugusta 2016 will gather well-known cyber-industry experts from across the country to discuss the next big thing in cyberattack and cyberdefense strategies. This year, Rob Joyce, chief of the National Security Agency’s Tailored Access Operations, will be the keynote speaker. BSides is a global network of cybersecurity experts who create cyber events in their communities to keep the conversation going. BSidesAugusta is among the largest Security BSides events in the world.
LOCATION & TIME:
Security Onion User’s Conference will take place 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at the Jaguar Student Activities Center ballroom on the Summerville Campus. Media are invited between 12:15 and 2:15 p.m.
BSidesAugusta 2016 will take place 7:45 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, at J. Harold Harrison, MD Education Commons on the Health Sciences Campus. Media are invited between 1 and 3 p.m.
