The Georgia Power Foundation said it will donate $2,500 to the Boy Scouts of America’s Georgia-Carolina Council on Thursday to support and expand Scouting in the greater Augusta area.

The money will be presented at 7:30 p.m. during the council’s Kiokee River District annual awards banquet in Columbia County at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on North Belair Road, according to a news release.

Since its founding in 1922, the Georgia-Carolina Council has grown to serve 16 counties in the greater Augusta area with more than 168 Scouting units and 6,200 registered youth members. Its coverage area includes Richmond, Columbia and Aiken counties.

The gift to the Georgia-Carolina Council will help the Boy Scouts provide outdoor adventure and community service opportunities to young men.
